I really enjoyed the comparison between flattery and compliment. While it may be easy for the speaker, because he knows his motives, the receiver may not be always able to distinguish between the two. That difficulty, at times, makes it challenging for me to accept a compliment. I am leary of being placed on a pedestal. I always think there are only two reasons why someone would put you on a pedestal; one, is to keep you there, out of the way; two, to watch what happens when you fall off. I need to make sure that my compliments are seen for what they truly are, and not for what they mistakenly might become.
