Today's reading made me smile because last Sunday we were in a a baptist church and the pastor spoke on the Isaiah passage that was quoted here in I Peter. When we left church I mentioned how the preacher really got his southern baptist up over his message. He was very passionate over what is quoted here in verses 24 & 25. His point at the end was much like the end of today's reading, we need to be in the word to grow.

..."the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord endures forever.”I too couldn't help but smile when I read this and remembered that preachers passionate repetition of this verse throughout his sermon. He wanted to make the congregation appreciate the importance and power of God's word.
