"Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry..." What great advice! Just think of the number of times we would have avoided a mistake or avoided hurting someone's feelings or perhaps made a better decision by just following such simple advice.
"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says." Many times we take the time to read or talk about God's word but fail to follow it. We deceive ourselves into thinking we are in fellowship with our Lord but without obedience we fail to reach that relational level. This also prevents us from enjoying the many graces God has for us. Like the old hymn says, all you have to do is "Trust and Obey" for there is no other way.
