6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your[a] faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead,[b] do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

Realizing what your gift is, then accepting it is not easy for many people. I'd like to think that "leading" is mine, but who's to say? Someone should do a study of a few thousand people. Ask each what they believe their gift is, then compare that to what their peers think. Would be interesting!

There is been much written about gifts and the church. When our church was in its infancy we spent much time trying to identify our gifts and how we can use them in the church. One thing that I recall from that experience is that there is a difference between gifts and spiritual gifts. While I would consider myself a gifted school teacher I don't see myself as a gifted Sunday School teacher. Yes, many of the characteristics are similar but one demands the calling of God in the spirit and passion of your activity. This is an area of concern recently for me. Our church has been through many changes and areas of ministry (some that may address my perceived gifts) have been eliminated. So the simple and irresponsible thing to do is not pray and reflect on what my role should be at church. Instead it is easiest to do nothing. Not only is that irresponsible but I don't receive the grace from God that accompanies that service, nor does my lifestyle now become a stronger witness for Christ. Pray that I find a way to correct this situation. No
