However, we talked about how sometimes we have to look at peoples outward appearances and be cautious. Cautious and kind. We live by many homeless people and as a parent it is hard to explain to be kind,loving but be cautious. Sometimes engaging them is not safe.

Tricia wrote exactly what I've been thinking all day. I think especially as women and children we need to be very cautious. We need to show compassion when possible but not at the risk of our safety.

Tough discussion to have with kids! How do we balance keeping them safe with teaching them to keep an open mind? Is it possible to keep them safe, while young, and then developmentally teach them the lesson of not judging on appearance? Not all lessons are meant to be learned at the same age. Timing is crucial!
